Message to Parents about Iowa Assessments
Seminole County Public Schools is dedicated to ensuring that students receive rigorous high quality instruction that results in the academic growth of each student. The results of the Iowa Assessments will provide a measure of each student’s strengths and areas of growth. Teachers will utilize this data to guide instructional decisions that best support students’ learning. Additionally, Iowa Assessment results will show parents how their student is performing in comparison to other students at the same grade level nationally.
In the Fall 2016, all students in kindergarten will be administered the Iowa Assessment in Reading, Vocabulary and Math. Students in first, second, and third grade who do not have a prior year Iowa Assessment score will be administered the Reading, Vocabulary, Math, and Computation assessments. The administration will take place within the regular classroom or test accommodation setting from Monday, September 12 through Friday, September 23.
Below is a chart that provides the number of sessions, items, test time for each grade level:
Parents with students in grades K-2 who take the paper-based test will be provided score reports about four weeks after tests are completed. Parents with students in grade 3 who take the computer-based tests will be provided score reports within a week after tests are completed. These scores will indicate how your student performed on the test compared with students across the nation in the same grade.
An informational letter about the Iowa Assessments will be provided to your student prior to testing. If you have additional questions after reading these documents, please contact Martina Herndon.
